BALIKCHIS DIVERS OF LAKES
Descended from early VOGEL that settled around marshy lowlands, the BALIKCHI can be found in all the Coasts and wetlands of SHANGRI-LA, often on the edges of MIZRAK societies.
They are heavily adapted to AQUTIC LIFE, both physically, with smaller builds, streamlined shapes, minimal FEATHERS, Large Lungs, and Paddle Tails. They are the only VOGELVOLK capable of Crossing Large Bodies of Water, Seasonally Rotating between various settlements to harvest different resources when they are in greatest abundance, whether that be fishing or diving In Search of PEARLS, AQUATIC PLANTS, and sessile AQUATIC FAUNA. They can broadly be divided between those living on the mainland coast, almost always under the rule of settled MIZRAK Societies, and those islands inaccessible to other species, who organize themselves in a variety
of ways. In a land of lakes, though, there are a lot of potential homes for the BALIKCHI, and any society with a coast must interact with them somehow. It was also the seaside BALIKCHI-culturally very different form the BALIKCHI of the Lakes - that saw the first interactions between HUMAN and VOGEL and, for their part, they did so quite Well.
