THE LEVIATHAN GATE

This region has exceptionally deep waters that are subject to sudden shifts in temperature. 

Known for "the Leviathan" a sea creature so massive that until recent history, it had been thought there could only be one of them. 

In fact, there is a thriving population of these MIGHTY ARMORED oddly shaped whales that slowly drift around the region, supporting miniature ecosystems in and around their own bodies. 

With their great strength and body heat, they can crash their way through the frozen ocean during winter. 

The Leviathans are known to spend extended periods of time in the darkest depths of the sea, the purpose of this is unknown, but it is thought to have something to do with their "JEWEL," an anomalous glowing organ located deep within their flesh, that explodes after they die, with enough force to tear apart their massive bodies. 

When obtained in tact, the Leviathan's jewel is a highly valuable commodity.
